INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING

In this course, students will learn the nuts & bolts of writing a screenplay, culminating in their own 10 to 30 minute script. Students will learn the conventions of screenplay formatting, scenes and sequences, how to create interesting characters and write effective dialogue, how to focus ideas and structure a story. Students will come away with a short script ready for production, confident to embark on a feature screenplay. No pre-requisite required.
$320 - 10 weeks
Students are advised to have a laptop computer for this course - require access to Word or preferably screenwriting software such as MovieMagic, Final Draft, etc.



FEATURE SCREENPLAY WORKSHOP

In this more advanced workshop, students are expected to be familiar with the basics of screenwriting; the course will focus on writing a feature length dramatic screenplay. Students are to bring their feature script (90-130 pages) or idea already in progress to the workshop. Each week, student scripts will be work-shopped with personal guidance from the instructor as well as feedback from other students. This will be complimented with advanced instruction in screenplay writing: the three act structure, beat sheets, the hook, through-lines, character studies, visual thinking, character arcs, point-of-view, obstacles, conflict, confrontation, resolution, etc. Funding resources will also be examined. No pre-requisite required.
