Thin canvas sheets that come in pads which are ready to use will work fine. However you can use canvas panels, pre-stretched already primed canvases, linen / cotton fabric canvas which is used to stretch your own canvases. Always keep brushes flat or standing with the bristle end up, not resting on its hairs. Keep the brush hairs from touching anything when they are still damp; if lying flat leave the bristle end extending from the edge of the table.
